29 Oct Power Supply
The Ponent-5 and Ponent-10 Class A power amplifiers require a power supply with little ripple and very quiet. For these amplifiers, we have two types of power supply; linear and switched.
- Linear. For the linear power supply we have used a 200W toroidal transformer with two separate secondary windings. Each secondary individually drives a high-speed bridge rectifier and a high-capacity, low-equivalent-resistance (ESR) electrolytic capacitor, thus each channel is powered separately.
- Switched. For the switching power supply, we have used two medical grade modules from Mean Well. These modules are characterized by having a low level of noise and ripple. Each module is connected directly to the power section of each channel independently, which is called “double monophonic configuration”
Both amplifiers will have the option to use whatever power supply the user decides to use.
